Quiz night

Thanks to all who attended the quiz night on 22 April.

Particular thanks to Paul & Ed Haylock for organising and The Heron at Stowbridge for hosting us.

Congratulations to Team 118 118 (Chris [Wadsley] and Matt) who took the plaudits on 162 points out of a possible 200.

Easter Car Display

The display of Classic and rally cars from members of the Kings Lynn and District Motor Club attracted many admiring glances from the Saturday shoppers and Sunday strollers.
A big thank you to the generosity of the Kings Lynn people and the visitors who helped to raise over £800 in aid of the East Anglia Air Ambulance over the 2 days.
The public also voted for their favourite car on display and the winner was the beautifully restored Mk1 Ford Mexico owned by Steve Tilburn and prepared by Jody Wilson seen with their trophy in the attached picture.
The Ford polled 35 votes, 2nd was the Mini Cooper S (33 votes), 3rd was the pretty 1957 Jaguar XK140 (29 votes) and 4th was the 1960 Volvo PV544 (26 votes).

A big thank you also to all the club members who brought their cars and helped on the stand.

Admiral Nelson Rally results

I would just like to say thankyou to everyone who competed and also marshalled on my event.  It is still a shame that we have to rely on some non-members to support us to enable an event to run.  Without those people my rally would have been cancelled so thankyou for your help.  I know we have a lower membership than we have had for many years but we do have a dedicated and larger committee than we have ever had before and we do still have a good membership compared to some other clubs.  Its just hard to figure out why we struggle for support on our grass roots heart of the club events.  I have to thank the Runcton Holme social club for hosting us once again and putting on a good spread of food at the finish.

Short Shift Rally   5th March 2014

Thank you to all who turned out to marshal or compete on my 12 car Clubnight Rally last week.

I apologise for being slow with this document and the results; the remainder of my week and weekend were occupied with too much rallying!

We started with eight entries but this became seven before a wheel was turned as Alan Shrimpton had car troubles following a SCCoN 12 car on the previous Friday.  Once underway we lost a second crew as Tony & Chloe Hewitt went OTL and decided to make their way home.  This was Chloe’s first attempt at plotting the route so it was bound to make things difficult; I hope that she will not be put off but have some more attempts.

Most crews seemed to enjoy the route though I was surprised at how difficult most found the instructions to be.  Sorry.

My band of helpers and marshals for the rally were as follows:

Competitors Sign-On & MTC.1                     Paul Davison, Colin & Elaine Shinkins

Course Opener & Handout checking              Bob Baker

Secretarial Assistant                                        Nikki Cammack

TC.5                                                                Paul Pollard

TC.6                                                                Andy Congreve

January Clubnight Results

Thanks to everyone for making last night’  club night a success, despite the contact we had with a Deer between TC7 & 8 and the offside rear spring on the Golf letting go whilst we sat at the final control made us jump like hell ..I forgot to do the marshal’s draw so got Elaine to do it today the winner is Paul Pollard

Thanks also to Greg for sponsoring the food and it was nice to see him and Judy at the finish.

The landlady of the Coach & Horses said we are welcome back any time which is nice when start venues with food are not easy to come by these days.

Regards.

Colin

Mark Banham and Jonathon Stimpson 2nd on the Preston

Kings Lynn member Mark Banham partnered by Jonathon Stimpson finish a tremendous 2nd overall on The Preston in their Rover 25, last weekend 7/8th December. Mark continues to improve his results on this rally finishing 4th in 2012 and 6th in 2011.

This is one of the toughest night road rallies on the calendar and is a great achievement for the Kings Lynn crew This is the organisers  from Chelmsford Motor Club’s description:

” The route itself will continue to be highly challenging, with the accurate timing used in previous years. There will be the occasional horrendously overgrown narrow bits, numerous bumps, yumps and thumps, puddles you can lose a car in and the infamous Preston mud! Notwithstanding the dry summer unless it is frosty, mud is guaranteed. As the saying goes, it is only depth that varies. Furthermore, if all goes to we should get away with only using 5 of the ‘roughest’ Preston whites. All this will be within a twenty-mile radius of Elveden, Suffolk, around 180 miles in total with 3 petrol halts. Currently there will be around 20 sections with the ‘mileage that counts’ amounting to approximately 120 miles and as ever about 90% of that will be un-surfaced”

Well done to Ed Haylock and Dave Smalley winning the Experts and Paul and Mathew Smalley winning the novices.

Great effort by the other 2 novice crews finishing well on a challenging route.

Apart from the errors in the instructions which are inexcusable we remain convinced that this is the type of rally we are used to organising , however it is clear that some crews, for good reason, do not like “whites” ,and some found the instructions too difficult (not helped by the errors).

So if the committee allow us to run an event next year ,there will be NO whites and the instructions will be simpler. We do listen and Learn!

In the confusion we did not do a marshal’s raffle but my wife has drawn a control out of the hat and the winner of £15 is TC6 Simon Leonard. Thanks to all the marshals for making it all work on the night.

Thanks to you all for an excellent entry of 9 crews this year, and Steve Tilburn of Hylton Gott for providing a welcome supper and staff at The Railway Inn at the finish.

Regards, Peter and Derek
