Classic Car Run

Full Chat – September 2025

Welcome to September’s Full Chat it’s been a busy month with competitors out on quite a few events starting off at the end of August with Dale Glover and David Smalley out on the stages of the Phil Price Memorial Rally in Wales. A good test event for Dale to set the car up for the Roger Albert Clark Rally later in the year. The car went well, having a new engine fitted before this rally, finishing 45th O/A and 3rd in class well done to you both.

The next day on 31st August saw some club members out on the Car Barn Kielder Targa rally starting in car 4 was Rob Kitchen with Ed Rutherford on the maps, finishing 27 h O/A and 2nd in HE class. In car 27 was Jonathan Stimpson with Ian Graham on the maps finishing 7th O/A and 5th in ME class. In car 30 was Rob Palmer with Kevin Groom on the maps, finishing 6th O/A and 4th in ME class well done all.

On the 3rd of September was our annual karting evening, a very good turn out with 15 teams competing. A rain shower just before the start made for some very slippery conditions for the drivers out on their first session, some spirited driving followed with faster drivers being left out longer on track. As the evening wore on the track began to dry and lap times improved. Teams 12 & 14 were fastest for most of the race, with team 6 coming up through the field to take the lead in the closing stages and finishing 1st with team 12 in 2nd and team 14 coming home in 3rd followed one lap down by team 15 in 4th and Ed Haylock taking fastest lap of 47.706 on lap 60.

7th September saw Jon Bray with Darren Styles on the notes were out competing on the Colin Ellmore Rally at Blyton Park starting 40th  following a spirited drive by Jon in his MG saw them finish 31st and 2nd in class F a great drive as usual and he didn’t lose any mirrors this time !!!.

On 5th September it was our last classic evening run out, organised by Duncan & Marian starting from Swaffham Market Place, with 17 cars taking part. A pleasant drive through the Norfolk country lanes in search of the Fustyweed, which we all found – but don’t tell folks where it is as we might go there again! – finishing at the Ploughshare at Beeston with a very nice meal. We hope to run 5 evening run outs next year so keep your eyes peeled for more information.

We also had a club stand at Kings Lynn Classic Day on Tuesday Market Place on 14th with 5 cars attending, attracting quite a bit of interest for the club with a few people interested in joining. The rain came in the afternoon so a bit of an early finish for everyone.

Events coming up.

Sunday 21st September Hunstanton Soapbox Derby, we will be there marshalling and timekeeping so come along and say hello.

Wednesday 8th October 12 car rally organised by Paul & Ed Haylock, you must have your own insurance to cover a navigational rally, (NO INSURANCE ON THE NIGHT) and a minimum of 8 teams for this to go ahead, please contact Paul – paulnhaylock@btinternet.com.
