Welcome to Full Chat it’s been another busy month for the club with lots going on !!!
Starting off on 17th June with Paul Smalley organising the CPR refresher at Runcton Holme Social Club, 14 members attending with Lucy from NARS putting us through our paces.
Following on Friday 19th was our next Friday evening classic run out, starting from Ian’s bowls club, with some of the members having a go before the run started. It was a pleasant run around some Norfolk roads, ending at Fincham for a good meal and a social gathering which included some new members, 17 cars taking part this time.
On 21st saw the club have a stand at the Hunstanton Carnival with 7 cars attending. It was held on the lower green, attracting a lot of interest in the club and gaining some new members.
On 28th June Duncan organised brunch at Arbuckles followed by a run out to Barton Bendish Open gardens, 9 members participated with a good turnout of classic cars at the event and several gardens to look at this seemed to be a good mix for the members.
1st July was our first Autotest of the summer organised by Dale Glover and family, with two larger tests run three times each, then the last test was both tests joined together run twice. Everyone enjoyed the evening with something different for the members to have some fun. The winner was Ian Thomson with 694 points.
12 July was Denver Car Show with several cars attending thanks to Jody for overseeing the club stand. We also on 16th July had 8 cars on the club stand at ‘Cars On The Mill’ at Stow Bridge.
We had some members out competing this month.
5th July Rob Kitchen with Ed Rutherford on the notes in the MGB on the Costwold Historic Rally the finished 25th Overall and 5th in Class.
Dale Glover with David Smalley on the maps in the Alfa Sud on the Plains Rally 2026. David reports –
‘We found ourselves in North Wales enjoying the beautiful scenery and the amazing forestry tracks that Wales has to offer. Everything was going well and our confidence was building but a deflating tyre in stage four hampered our performance and knocked a little confidence in stage five. Stage 6 7 & 8 were mega and everything was working well. On arrival to the start control of stage 9 we were informed that a serious RTC had blocked a road section meaning competitors couldn’t get to the stages. This meant the last three stages would be cancelled. This meant we didn’t have enough mileage to try and get back up the 1400 standings, but the performance and teamwork was fantastic and hopefully we can carry on the momentum into the Nicky Grist stages in July. After stage 7 we finished 39th Overall and 5th 1400’
19th July Chris Cockrell competed in the Merlin Stages in Sunny Wales at the Pembrey circuit, Chris reports –
After finishing at Cadwell on the 26th April it’s been a long wait for me to get back in a rally car so over the weekend i competed at the Merlin stages at Pembrey circuit in a rally rental Suzuki swift with JAMTECH motorsport who prepared the car and supported me every step of the way with a view to doing the whole circuit championship with them in the Suzuki and mini R50. The car was great and I finished 36th overall out of 60 entries and 4th in class. The whole day went brilliantly but as the heat kicked in about 10am there was a lot of tyre shredding so by stage 3 we had a front tyre change as I narrowly escaped total destruction of my front right and went onto to finish the event and mission accomplished for testing the Suzuki swift. After much disappointment with other rally rentals, if you are considering renting for one event or championships I can highly recommend JAMTECH MOTORSPORT (07586336808) and speak with Jamie Hales as they looked after me and getting me out rallying on a very tight budget.
26th July was our 48th Classic Car Rally with 64 cars taking part ranging from vintage (pre-1960), Historic (1960-1975), Post Historic classic (1976-1995) and Modern classic (1996-2011). Starting from Norfolk Leisure in Setchey, for a drive of around 53 miles through Norfolk to the lunch halt at Great Moulton, where some had a hot lunch in the marquee and the rest had a picnic on the grass in the sunshine. After lunch we then continued for 43 miles to the finish at Holkham Hall with presentation of trophies by 8th Earl of Leicester. Great event thanks for Adrian and the Classic Team.
