Welcome to October Full Chat which started with the Hunstanton Soap Box Derby with our team of 13 members doing various jobs, which included scrutinising the carts, time keeping, start line control and looking after the club stand with a variety of cars on show. Paul Smalley did a great job getting in his steps (15;000) bet he had sore feet by the time he got home.
On 8-11 October David Smalley was navigating in a Lancia Delta on the 550 Challenge Rally on the island of Mallorca, having a good first day laying 5th overall by the end of the day, on day two the Lancia broke a rear drive shaft on the Coll-de-Soller Stage, where there are 52 hairpins in a 7km stage, which meant dropping some time down the order by the end of the day. The mechanics put in an overnight shift to repair the car, and after a few more issues with the car on the final day, they finished the Rally 6th O/A and 1st in class, a great effort well done.
Other members out where Rob and Dick Lines having both contesting Class A of the AMSC Car Trial Championship in the silver VW Lupo with varied results.
- ECMC Seckford Hall – Robin 9 o/a 2nd in class Dick 8 o/a 1st in class.
- WSMC Suggs Pit – Both marshalled as felt venue wasn’t suitable for the car.
- WSMC Wattisfield – Robin 5o/a 1st in class Dick 9 o/a 2 in class.
- FMC Ivanhoe – Retired with transmission failed, their first retirement in the Lupo after 5 years of double driving.
In addition to the trials Robin is also contesting the AMSC Autosolo Challenge in his blue / white classic mini, whilst Dick is marshalling on these events. Running in Class A up to 1400 cc and driving to/from the events, with 4 events completed the combination of Robin & the mini have claimed 4 class wins as well as 3 outright FTD on the events.
On 15th members of the committee presented a cheque for £1,150 to NARS (Norfolk ACCIDENT Rescue Service) from monies raised from our main Classic Run. The presentation took place at Steve Cato Classic Restorations one of the events sponsors. It’s a great way to support this valuable service.
Unfortunately we had to cancel our October 12 car through lack of entries, but we still have our next on one coming up on the 12 November, so please let’s have more members out there to support this last one before Christmas, for entries and marshals contact Paul Smalley at paul.smalley@kier.co.uk.
Then we will be going into December with our social and festive Quiz at Runcton Holme Social Club on 3 December, so get your teams together and thinking heads on. This will be organised by Duncan Russell and Adrian Cunnington.
Contact: secretary@kingslynndmc.co.uk to enter your teams of four.
That’s all for now, see you soon.
